“Honeycake Based on Basler Recipe”

This traditional baked delicacy is sometimes known as ‘Baseler Leckerli’ and it is similar to lebkuchen. It is made using wheat flour, lots of honey, candied fruit and numerous different nuts, such as hazelnuts and almonds. The dough is baked in a flat tin and is cut up into small rectangular pieces while it is still warm. It is then glazed with water icing. The underside is then coated in bitter dark chocolate as a contrast to the sweet glaze. This delicious Christmas treat is named after its city of origin, Basel.
